Nursing moms—do you have night weaning plans?

Question

For any nursing moms, have you night weaned? Are you planning to? If so, when will you wean and do you have a strategy?
I’m thinking it’s time to start because baby is 8+ months and still feeding 3x at night.

My baby has naturally stopped nursing so much through the night as she has slept longer stretches of sleep! We co-sleep, we didn’t always but has a really tough transition from the bassinet to the pack n play and started co-sleeping around 6 months. She used to wake 3x a night and nurse each time but as she has started sleeping longer stretches, we only nurse 1-2x through the night, depending on her sleep stretches. For example, last night she did 6.5 hour stretch then she nursed for 8 mins and went back to sleep, then did another 3 hour stretch, nursed then went back to sleep before waking up for the day. But, if she woke after like 2 hours instead of 3, I wouldn’t have nursed her since it would’ve only been 2 hours. We also still nurse every 3-4 hours through the day. So we haven’t really weaned anywhere I guess. Hope this was helpful!!

I struggled with this with my first and unfortunately it never stopped. We nursed until he was 2 years old and at that point he still was waking up 2-3 times a night to nurse. I just cut him off one day. He was not understanding to I put bandaids over my nipples and had to explain to him that milky is all gone. It was really tough for a solid week or two. Just based on that, if you are planning on weaning from night feeds I suggest doing it sooner rather than later because when they get older it’s so much harder because they know they should be getting it and don’t understand why they can’t and it really frustrates them.

I just went thru this. In fact now we only nurse 4 times a day....😔 he sleeps with us too. I'd just pat him on his back until he'd go back to sleep for a few nights. Only twice where he really wanted to and I gave in. My boobs would wake up heavy the first two days, then I think they adjusted. Don't put so much stress on yourself to do it right away. That was my mistake, eventually he just went with it. Now he sleeps thru and lady...I haven't slept thru the night since before he was born. Just expect it to take time and patience.
