Can a gynecologist prescribe me with anxiety and postpartum depression medication?

Hi, I’ve been suffering with postpartum depression for about a year now. My daughter just turned one. Not only that, but I’m dealing with overwhelming anxiety. Some people have given me grief about needing medication but I’m to a point where I feel like I can no longer be strong. I can’t do this on my own. I have three children to care for and I have NOT been my best self for a long time.

Medication like that is a tool. It's just like a cast for a broken leg, it wont mend the problem, but it will hold you steady while you take steps to fix the things in your life that contribute to your depression and anxiety. No one would tell anyone with a broken leg that they don't need a cast would they? 
I've been on antidepressants before and I had the same shit said to me, but they gave me the energy and enthusiasm I needed to seek help, so I started seeing a councillor (therapist) and eventually I was able to come off the medication slowly and now I have more tools to help me when I struggle again and I dont need the meds. But if I ever did get stuck in that hole again I wouldn't hesitate to pop and get a prescription, so I could level myself out and get the help I need again.
People that have never felt like they're at the bottom of the well don't know how much a medication like that can help. It's a ladder, you still have to put the effort in and climb to reach the surface, but without the ladder you'd just stare up at the hole and feel trapped.

They should be able to do so... it's a psychiatric condition occurring in new mothers, so, your obstetrician/gynecologist should be in Position to help you

No one should ever give you grief about needing medication. Many many people do. Just wanted to say I’m proud of you for recognizing you need help! I’m not sure if a gynecologist can prescribe that or not. You can always call your doctors nurse and ask! Best of luck 💕

Mine did. I didn't even know I had ppd. I was also a year PP. I went in as a follow-up because I had a bad anxiety attack that I went to the ER for. My gyno ended up prescribing me medication.
