Okay this is sooo stupid but I’m not sure if I’m in the wrong here

For reference I have a very large backyard

I smoke occasionally. Not often but every once in a while I like to enjoy a cigarette

It’s a bad habit but it calms me down when I’m feeling anxious.

A few times I’ve had a smoke in my backyard and my neighbour has been in her backyard

I usually check first and if I can’t see her I’ll have one but if I see her back there I won’t

We have a privacy fence but I can usually see her if shes back there

I make an effort not to smoke if shes back there

This neighbour happens to be the type to report everyone to HOA. We’ve had a lot of issues with her. She told the HOA that we have “suspicious traffic” coming to our house

We’ve had guests maybe 5 times in over a year just to clarify. It’s only ever been our friends who are couples with kids. My husband is black so I can only assume she’s a bitter old racist

She’s a lonely old white lady who lives alone and makes it her business to monitor everyone. I’ve been told by other neighbours she’s a drunk and she just wants to make problems for everyone because she has nothing better to do. The previous owners ever warned us about her

So you get the idea on how she is.

Anyway back on track

So if I have a smoke and she happens to be outside she will start throwing a massive coughing attack. It sounds fake as hell to be honest. Like you know the sound of someone faking a cough and someone actually coughing. She won’t stop until I go back inside.

I’m in my backyard at least 200 feet from her. I’m not breaking any rules and I do try to be courteous and not smoke if she’s back there but if she happens to be and I didn’t notice... well I didn’t mean to

But these over the top coughing fits just rub me the wrong way.

She’s not even anywhere where smoke is going. She may be able to smell a hint of it but there’s no smoke ever even making it near her yard. Like I said, we’re very far apart because we have large backyards. So she’s throwing a coughing fit based on the fact that she maybe smells a bit of smoke. Not because I’m smoking near her or near her yard. I smoke on the opposite side from her.

I started feeling guilty but then I just think, I’m not doing anything wrong and I’m nowhere near you... is this really necessary?

Is she being dramatic or am I just being a bad neighbour
