Sex after inguinal hernia

Last year my bf (25 yr old M) had emergency surgery for inguinal hernia repair. He was in pain for a year beforehand but was misdiagnosed twice and kinda gave up until he was rushed to the ER in unbearable pain and they did the surgery. The recovery has been rough with continual pain and multiple appointments but they keep saying it’s fine and just to let it heal. But it’s been a year and from what I’ve read he should be able to do normal activities by now. But we aren’t able to have sex but maybe once a week due to his pain. And I feel it’s getting worse because we haven’t had sex in almost two weeks and just tried and couldn’t even get passed 10 seconds of penetration before he had to stop 😔 I try to be understanding of the pain and why he can’t but it’s just so disheartening. Has anyone been through this and can give me any insight or maybe positions we could try? I keep encouraging him to see the dr but they always say the same thing, just let it heal. I miss having sex and I know he does too. Please help.
