What would you want your mom to do

So let's say you like to sing and want to sing in your middle school talent show, however you are tone deaf and can't sing at all. Would you want your mom to tell you the truth about your voice to save you from embarrassing yourself on stage or just zip it and be supportive?

No please definitely tell. I think it's so cruel to be "supportive" and then let someone embarrass themselves because you don't have the heart to be honest.

So, I'm an awful singer. But I love singing, it makes me happy. 
I think it sends a poor message if you only encourage children to do stuff because they're good at it instead of encouraging them to do what makes them happy. 
Having said that though, don't blow smoke up your kids arse and tell them they're the next Kelly Clarkson. But you can say "you're a poor singer, but if you want to sing then go ahead and sing your little heart out"

Thinking from my perspective as an adult now I would just want her support so I could have fun because I'm now less sensitive to bullys and people who are rude. 
But thinking back to my 11 year old self, I would hope my mom tried to dissuade me. Being bullied was a huge part of my experience and being saved the extra laughter would be better...
