Preeclampsia
This pregnancy was the worst experience of my whole life. Everything was good until about week 24. It started with just high blood pressure the weekend before Christmas. I stayed the night in the hospital on watch and was released the next day. The doctor thought I was okay enough to not have to spend Christmas in the hospital. For the most part I was.. i should have went back a couple days later because it started getting worse but i didnt wana spend my first Christmas with my boyfriend in a hospital bed. I pushed myself til the 28th of December for my follow up appointment from my hospital visit at my obgyn. When I got to my appointment, my doctor took urine and blood (normal routine) samples. My urine had blood in it and my labs were showing high levels of creatinine and low platelet levels. She had me go over to the hospital, which started my 2 week hospital stay. I came to find out that I got lucky by catching the symptoms as soon as I did. Long story short, my kidneys were failing, my liver was failing, I was retaining water so bad I was swollen everywhere, my platelet levels were super low, my blood pressure was through the roof. I got put on bp meds, antacids, multiple 24 hour periods of magnesium iv, labs taken multiple times a day. They gave me the shots to progress her lungs just in case. They checked on me every hour in the beginning.. up until the 4th of January. That's when my vision started going. Everything got blurry and there were black spots covering everything. As the day progressed it got worse. Between everything, the doctor determined that if they didn't get my daughter out that day, there was a high chance of myself or her not surviving the pregnancy. That night I had an emergency csection to have my little girl born. She weighed 1lb 14oz and was only 13 inches long. She was born at 26 weeks and 6 days. She has been fighting every day since in the NICU. After her birth I spent another week in the hospital. They werent letting me get discharged until they found the best combination of medication that stabilized everything to make it safe for me to go home and not end up back in there. I lost 60lbs of birth and water weight by the time I got to go home. Majority of my symptoms leveled out back to normal in the first week after surgery. It was one heck of a experience for me that I never thought I'd go through. I am so thankful that the doctors made the call and saved both of our lives. My little girl is nearly 2 months old now and is up to 3lb 3oz and growing ! This pregnancy was the worst but best experience of my life. Unfortunately, due to the csection, having to cut vertically instead of horizontal on my uterus, I can never experience labor, contractions, or a natural birth ever in my life. When we decide to have another child, the pregnancy has to be planned and monitored. I'll also have to have another csection and the baby will be premature no matter what. I dont know if I can handle it again but one day I want a second child. It's crazy how a womans body works during pregnancy. That whole time that I was slowly dying, she was kicking and moving and showed no signs of any problems in the womb. The womb kept her safe even though I definitely wasnt. Her name is Astrid Faye and she has progressed so far since her birth. The picture was taken last week when she was 2lb 15oz! Shes learned the sucking motion and has started using a binkie finally! She loves mommies voice and opens her eyes and smiles every time I talk to her. Her cuddles are amazing. She is worth almost dying for, I'd give my life for her to live anyday everyday. She is the most precious little girl I've ever met. I cant wait for the battle to be over and her be I'm my arms every night. Womanhood is one heck of a ride but I dont regret what happened one bit. I'm glad she was able to enter the world earlier than expected and is fighting daily to keep going for mommy like mommy did for her.
