Am I overdoing it?

My son is 2 1/2 and lately he’s been in this phase where he is very destructive and messing with things he shouldn’t be. The people around me try to tell me I’m too controlling and I need to let him be... how? just today he was fucking with the sliding door blinds, smacking the TV til it almost fell over, picking up my scale and throwing it to the ground, and spilt his whole cup of water just because. How am I supposed to watch him do these things and not interfere? This has been a daily thing lately. Apparently I say “no” and “stop” too much. What else am I supposed to say?

Give him things he can be destructive with. Babies and kids thrive on attention no matter how they get it. Sometimes by correcting them it encourages them to keep doing it. Sounds like you have a very active baby who needs an active hobby or game to keep him occupied.

I think you’re doing just fine. Children need to learn boundaries and what’s okay and not okay. I don’t think it’s smart to just let him do whatever he wants just because he’s two. If you don’t set some boundaries now, you’ll have other problems down the line of him being defiant and not listening to you since you didn’t stop the behavior beforehand.

Sounds like you're doing just fine to me. You can't just let him do whatever he wants, that'd be disastrous. Idk if you do this but redirecting seems to work best imo. "You can't play with the blinds, here let's play ____". Or "we don't hit the TV but you can play with x"(if he has a toy where you can hit something like a toy hammer/nail that'd work great to redirect to). Then you're not just saying no or stop you're showing them alternatives.

I would be really stern and say “knock it off or “(whatever punishment you use in your home)
I always thought politely saying no over and over never worked. 
I put my serious voice on and honestly scared my kids a bit 😂🤷🏻‍♀️They didn’t want to hear my mean voice so they quit doing naughty stuff.
Tough love needs to happen sometimes. 
Especially if they ignore you over and over and think it’s funny to be naughty.

I suggest it is time for time outs. That’s what we do and it works like a charm for our toddler. 
I basically watched a lot of Supernanny episodes on YouTube and it gave me some good pointers.

If he is going to get hurt or break something like a tv. Then you need to step in. I wouldn’t worry what other thinks as he is your kid and you know what is best for him.

It’s hard to say if you’re overdoing it or not… Obviously you have to set boundaries when he’s doing something that could hurt himself or destroy something… But it might be a good time to baby proof the house and get some of these items out of his reach and start giving him things he can actually be destructive with. In those moments instead of saying no, you can try to redirect him to a different activity. Give him something similar to what he’s doing, except it’s allowed. He wants to bang on the TV, give him a drum to bang on instead, for example.￼￼ I also started 123 Magic (google it) when my daughter was around your sons age, and it worked really well for us. ￼
