Baby clothes for August baby

I'm due 8/24 and live north of Chicago. Last year around that time it was still pretty warm during the day. What should I plan to dress baby in? Would footed cotton sleepers be too hot? I'm trying to buy an outfit to bring him home in, but I don't want to buy the wrong thing and then him not be comfortable in it.
