What do you do?

Question

I have a 1.5 year old and he will throw his food on the floor as soon as I give it to him sometimes 
What do you all do in the situation?

Answer

Not offer a plate yet. Use a tray or mat and offer small or single bites at a time until he shows more restraint in using a plate and not throwing items. You can practice with an empty plate. When he leaves it in place you put a bite of a preferred food on it. Reward for keeping the plate in place.

This may sound crazy, but when my daughter was that age and she did that, I would say “no, we don’t throw food on the floor” and put her in her crib each time she did it, and eventually it stopped. 
If I didn’t, she just thought it was a game and would keep throwing the food. When I put her in her crib literally each time she tossed something out (sometimes I’d go back and forth to her crib like 5 times in a minute), she didn’t like it, so she eventually caught on after a couple times of doing this that if she didn’t throw food, then she got to stay in her chair. I didn’t even care if she was playing with it on her tray and not eating it, but the throwing was something I tried to nip in the bud right away.

We started by giving just small amounts like one bite or spoonful on the plate until he stopped playing with the plate.

Take him down and let him go back to playing. I offer smoothies or baby food pouches later.

I would get my son to help me clean it up. He stopped doing it by the time he was 2.
