Feeding solids?

My little one just had her 4 month checkup this morning and her Dr. recommend introducing her to food! I thought it was not recommended to give babies solids until 6 months? I’m just wondering if anyone here has started food as well or is thinking about giving your little ones food at 4 months?

I follow what the AAP says - 6 months. We just had our 4mo appt today and our pediatrician said we could try cereal mixed with milk if we wanted but I won't be. My girl doesn't seem very interested in food and I'd rather follow the AAP recommendations to ensure her stomach is mature enough to handle the food. Plus cereal has no nutritional value, and I intend to do BLW.

It depends on the development stage. My pediatrician said at 4 months they’ll check to see if she hits certain milestones, and if she does than she can be introduced to solids. Every baby develops differently and at their own pace, so I’d follow your pediatricians recommendations.

So, my sister in law just had this conversation last week as my son is turning 4 months old in just a week! Babies bellies are not ready for solids at 4 months old as they do not have the muscles really. As my sister in law explained to me. I do not plan on giving my son solids till 6 months. we are having formula issues right now

Is there a reason why the paediatrician said to start solids? To gain more weight? To have better sleep?

They may not be up to date on the latest recommendations, but it’s totally up to you when you start! I’ll be doing 6 months :)

My baby girl had her 4 month check up yesterday and her doctor also recommended I start her on some strained foods! I let her try some sweet potatoes last night and she loved them! I didn’t give her a whole lot but she did great with them😊

My baby girl has her 4 month check up today. If her pediatrician says it’s ok to start with food, I wouldn’t until she’s 6 months. That food wouldn’t be going anywhere lol.
