I would appreciate outside perspective

I'm a bit at a loss. According to my LMP I should be 9 weeks along. My viability scan shows only 5 weeks of development. Small fetal pole, large gestational sac, no heartbeat. The technician was very somber and apologetic, not at all hopeful. My HCG levels are still high, indicating I'm between 5 ~ 13 weeks pregnant. They admitted that the tests were unfortunately not very accurate.

Has this happened to anyone else? I have a second scan in a few days, but I'm afraid to get my hopes up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to find a realistic headspace before I face my second scan.
