Forward face? 37”, 31.5lbs, 2yr 10mo

Our son is currently rear facing in his car seat. He doesn’t really care because he doesn’t know any different, but it’s difficult to get him in and out of the car (Ford Fusion). My husband mentioned maybe forward facing him. I was going to wait until he at least turned 3 in May, but am considering switching him now. 
He’s 2yr 10mo, 37” tall, and 31.5lbs. 
He’s in a Chicco Nextfit Zip, which is rated rear facing up to 43” or 40lbs.

Keep him rear facing as long as possible, he’s so much safer that way. My 3 year 9 month old is still rear facing and will be until she’s at least 4.

I’d keep him rear facing as long as possible, knowing that it’s exponentially safer for him than being forward facing. When in doubt, I always err on the side of safety rather than convenience.

I’d wait. He might start helping more with the getting in and out soon. I remember around 2.5 - 3.5 my first was difficult to get in and out and I was toying with switching to forward-facing. I’m glad I didn’t. He’s 4.5 now and still rear-facing and is able to help more with maneuvering himself.
