I’m a healthy 38 year old carrying my third daughter. I work up Friday cleared my throat and coughed up blood. The right side of my chest started to hurt so I decided to go to urgent care. The doctor didn’t want to do much because of my pregnancy. We did an US of my legs and an X-ray of my chest both came back negative.

He said he did not want to put me or the baby through any unnecessary stress, so we agreed not to do the CT scan. He said if it happens again to come back. That night I couldn’t sleep I was very uncomfortable. I went and slept propped up on the couch. In the morning I cleared my throat and brought up blood again.

I didn’t want to go back to the WR but then I started having stomach spasms on the left side. The spams started getting intense until the point I could not move. I head to the ER and agree to do the CT scan to see what’s going on.

The results come back that I have a blood clot in each lung and I have to be transferred to the hospital. As of now, I am a step down from ICU care running a heparin drip. I found out that had the first doctor ordered a D-dimer test (blood test) it would have told him I had a clot without having to do the ct scan.
