Tips on growing Ivy indoors?

Just purchased my first Ivy plant! I love it and I’m so excited to watch it grow. The instructions it came with said it should have a “aquastick” that goes from the root system to water underneath so the root do not sit in water. My plant however doesn’t have one. I’d also like to move it to a new planter so any tip would be great! I was thinking placing pebbles in the base and using a moisture control fertilizer. I’m a noob tho so any tried and true methods welcome.
