Dry hands & feet? Newborn

The nurses told me it’s normal. He was born yesterday but it looks kind of painful & was wondering if I should put lotion on him or what??

My baby was 5 days late, and her hands and feet looked like this. “Imagine she’s been swimming in all that amniotic fluid during those extra days, so she’ll be a bit prune-y,” is how they explained it to us. Doctor said we could put Vaseline if we wanted, but it went away after a few weeks.

Don’t need to put anything on that it’s normal.especially don’t put anything on the hands cause they get it in their mouth.my baby had it until 2-3 weeks and then gone

It’s normal! You don’t need to put anything on it though unless the skin is actually cracked. But if you feel more comfortable putting something on it, try using aquaphor of Vaseline and not baby lotion for the first couple weeks!

It's normal; they peel and shed for a week or two. You can use baby lotion if you want. It shouldn't hurt though. It's not really dry skin the way we get it; it's that outer layer that has been wet for the past 9 months sloughing off.
