Biting...the good & the bad kind

Jill • FTM to our one and only Neal.

So my boy is 16 months and he's got 12 teeth! 😯 Which includes 4 first molars!

The bad, is that at daycare he is getting mouthy and biting when someone tries to take a toy from him or when someone has a toy he wants. He hasn't broken skin, but I feel like it's only a matter of time.

He used to put his mouth on you when he got too excited and we've mostly been able to curb that by introducing clapping and hopping, but not sure what to sub this biting with since he doesn't understand waiting or asking nicely yet.

The good kind of biting that I WANT him to do is taking bites out of his food which he DOESN'T seem to be doing despite being such a good biter at others times. 🙄

I've been cutting food into "sticks" to encourage biting, but he just shoves it all in and gags himself.

So looking for any and all ideas to help with getting him to take bites of food instead of just shoving everything in and to stop biting when he's upset. Obviously we've got lots of teeth to go and he still chews everything, so I know there won't be anything miraculous, just looking for guidance.
