VSD outcome?

For those who have little ones with a VSD (heart defect) what was the outcome? Please comment need to hear some experiences.

My son (16) months has vsd and he just went through his first open heart surgery on December 22nd.  He recovered really fast after surgery and they were able to completely close the two holes he had! He still has issues with his mitral valve but the vsd is fixed.

At first when my baby girl came into this world..everything was fine... but after a week I noticed that she eats little and when she eats she sweats and falls asleep immediately.. we were scheduled for a regular check-up with the family doctor..she heard heart murmurs and immediately sent us to the children's hospital.. then our story began..the doctor said that Amelia has a heart defect, one big hole of 7 mm and many small ones..the big one created a strong flow to the lungs and it had to be repaired.. after about a week there.. she had her first surgery..they placed a constriction to reduce the flow and the risk to the lungs.. 
we are currently at home and waiting for a call..at the end of September there will be a second operation in which the holes will be closed..the doctor explained that the operation will be difficult because the big hole is at the very top of the heart and to get to him the left side of the top will have to be cut.. the longer the operation, the biger  risks
.. I can't put into words how scared I am... but I am powerless and the only thing I can do is be with her...
