Our rainbow baby is 1 week old today! Last Monday, at 38w1d, my water broke—no contractions, no bleeding, no losing the mucus plug or bloody show, nothing. We got to the hospital and I was only 1/2cm dilated so over the next 31 hrs and 15 minutes, multiple induction interventions were done to get me dilated—cytotec, cook balloon, pitocin—with nothing working. The furthest I got was 5cm. After the epidural, I could no longer feel the contractions so my husband would watch them on the monitor and could see how intense and close they were and for each contraction, baby’s heartbeat would drop and then recover. Each time it dropped a little too long or a little too low, doctors and nurses would rush in to change my position. Eventually, the only position that the baby could tolerate was me being on my hands and knees. After spending 3 hours in that position, with both my legs now being complete dead weight and still no further than 5cm, an emergency c-section was needed. At 11:29pm on 3/9/21, 31 hrs and 15 minutes after my water broke, our rainbow son was born into this crazy world! Our pandemic peanut came out at 5lb 8.5oz and we found out he had 2 tight knots in the umbilical cord, hence the drops in heartbeat! We’re so thankful, blessed, and grateful for our little man being here with us—happy and healthy. 💙🌈
