How important are birthing/breastfeeding classes?

I’m a first time mom and every article I’ve ever read about giving birth says that birthing classes are very helpful to absolutely nessacary for first time moms to give birth healthily and happily. Has anyone on here taken such classes before giving birth? If so how helpful were they? Were they worth the price you paid for them?

I dont think its necessary but im sure it won't hurt either. But I've never been to one.

I never took either, got induced and breast fed my daughter for 5 1/2 months  (it was tough as shit though) I didn’t know anything about cluster feeding or feeding on both breasts to keep up supply but I figured it out along the way, but everyone is different! Good luck to you!

With my first, I never took a birthing class, never read a book, nothing. My labor and delivery was amazing. On the other hand, I didn’t do any reading or classes with breastfeeding and it didn’t work for me. So-this time I’m for sure educating myself on breastfeeding.

I recommend the breastfeeding class but the birthing class was useless to me because I got induced anyways. 
They basically just talked about what to do in labor while at home before you go to the hospital. Which obviously didn’t happen for me hahaha 😑

It’s not necessary but I always recommend it for women who are considering it.

I think this depends a lot on how much you’ve been around birthing and babies. My husband and I took two birthing classes before our first and I honestly learned maybe two things I didn’t already know, but I have a lot of nieces and nephews and was in the room for one of their births. If I hadn’t already known it would’ve probably been really helpful. I didn’t take a breastfeeding class but I did meet with a lactation consultant at the hospital and that was extremely helpful

An educated birth is an empowered birth. It is so important to know your options and have information about what could and should happen!

I found it really helpful when I had my first.  I knew what the different types of pain management were and how they were used.  I new the different tools that could possibly be used.  Got to tour the hospital.  Etc.  Mostly, I found it helpful for my birth partner to learn things though.  It’s so hard to spend your pregnancy researching and learning to walk into it with a clueless birth partner who ends up being no help at all.
