Normal Sperm Morphology?

My husbands sperm morphology came back at 4%. Clinic said this was normal. Everything I’m reading though points to it being on the low side and potentially impacting embryo quality. Been struggling to get embryos fo grow to blast stage and now am curious if this has anything to do with it.

While that’s on the normal side, would confirm if the clinic thinks it’s a sperm or egg issue or both. Unfortunately there no test for eggs but there are ways to improve egg quality ( suggest reading “it all starts with the egg”). 
For sperm you can do a dna fragmentation test. We did this after our first retrieval when we got 0 blasts. My husband’s morphology was 2-3% and the fragmentation showed that he was borderline normal (10% was the threshold for fragmentation). We also found out he has varicose veins, which is super common. Either way we decide to do a split TESA and fresh sperm for our second retrieval. While we ended up with 4 blasts, 2 were from TESA and 2 from fresh. This makes me think that our problem was egg quality which I’m sure was improved based on the supplements I took and controlling the overstimulation (after talking with my doctor).

We have 3% but they said that's unlikely to be an issue because it's only 1% under normal and because his count is normal they said the slightly low morphology wouldn't matter.

There are different normal ranges out there. The one my husband’s lab used was 30%+ (his ranged from 0-2%). There is another normal that is 4%+, so this could be what your lab is using. Either way, he’s borderline at best but I think assessing the impact on embryo quality is a different type of testing (DNA fragmentation... we never had that done). Morph did impact our fertilization rate for IVF, but we ended up with a few blasts.
