IUI over 40?

Has anyone done IUI over 40 and been successful?  My DR isn’t recommending it since I’m 42, but I’ve successfully had 2 children with my first husband.  Second doesn’t have any children and we’d like to have one together.  I’m just not sure if I should advocate for this or not.  TYIA!  ☺️

I would not. IUI success rates are already almost the same as attempting naturally. Yes, you’ve had children, but your egg quality now is severely low compared to then. At age 35, you’re on a rapid downward slope. By 42, the outlook for success (without miscarriage) is not good. IMO, go to IVF if you’re going to attempt medical intervention before it’s too late.

IVF/ICSI with genetic testing of embryos is the route to go at your age. IUI pregnancy and live birth rates are quite low for your age group even if everything is perfect, and you simply don’t have the time to spend a few months doing that before moving on.
I had 2 children conceived first try in my mid-20s and it was a whole different ballgame with my current husband TTC at 35+. Past success conceiving is a good predictive factor, but only to a point. It can’t compensate entirely for advanced age, or other factors that could be different now - in my case, my husband has poor sperm parameters and we needed IVF. Good luck to you!

My mom was in this situation at the same age with her second husband. They tried a couple rounds of IVF before adopting my brother
