Depends. So in my experience doctors told me not to wear a tampon until I had had my period for a full year. I don’t use them after a bad experience and I’m comfortable with pads. Keeping them on for long periods of time is bad, and I found that my bodies Oder got worse with tampons. Some people find them uncomfortable too and not worth it. Depends on your body

Tampons are totally fine and normal. I personally don’t like them but that’s a preference. They are safe as long as you change them every 8hrs and make sure to get the right size or you’ll be uncomfortable

I have been using tampons ever since my period began when I was 14 and I am now 29. I have never had any issues with them or any side effects.

It can be bad if theres chemicals and bleach in them. I've also read a lot of testimonials from women saying they make their cramps worse. Also, theres a risk of toxic shock syndrome. 
Try and use organic cotton and if you are willing, try the cup or period panties. 
I personally dislike tampons and only wear them when I dont have a clean cup handy or some weird circumstance.
