My mom calls my boyfriend my “friend” ...

I just wanted to know if anyone else’s parent(s)/guardian(s) has ever referred to your mate/spouse as your “friend” even tho it’s been made clear that you’re something more. Like I find that a little insulting. My mom knows his name and everything and she’s aware that we’re in a relationship but still refers to him as my “friend”. I think it might be an older generational thing.. my grandmother calls him my “friend” too..

Btw I’m 23, bf is also 23, so it’s not like we’re too young to be dating but I feel like for some reason my mom is uncomfortable with acknowledging our relationship for what it is. Has anyone else been through this?
