You can pretty much do whatever you want with nicknames, but everyone is probably going to assume his full name is Theodore. If that doesn’t bother you, then go for it!

My grandfather’s name was Elmer and everyone called him Mike.
My husband’s grandfather’s name is Frederick and everyone calls him Ted.

my dog’s name is thomas, i call him timmy tommy, Mr. Tibbles, Tibby. i never thought teddy for a nickname for thomas. that’s usually for Theo(dore) isn’t it? but you can make up any nickname for anyone. obviously my name isn’t really koala
