When do you stop trying to pump?

Jessica

Babe is a week old today and we had to start supplementing with formula because my milk has not come in. He stopped latching because he wasn’t getting anything so I pulled out my pump and have been trying to get my supply to come in. It’s been two days and the most I’ve gotten is 1/4 ounce out of one breast. One produces maybe a drop if I’m lucky.

I have been eating all the milk boosting foods and drinking all the drinks. Nothing seems to do the trick. My husband says to see a lactation consultant, but if the milks not there what can they do?

So I guess my question is, is there anything a lactation consultant can do if my milk just doesn’t come in?

And after the 3-7 days when milk usually comes in, how much longer do you keep trying to stimulate it?
