Epidural didn’t work in time story!

Kiki

My baby is almost 5 weeks and while my story isn’t all that exciting I’ve been wanting to share it so here we go!

Having a history of incompetent cervix I had a cerclage put in at 13 weeks and removed at 36. With my first I went into labor at 38 weeks so I was anticipating the same if not sooner boy was I wrong!

At 40 weeks 2 days I was induced due to his size ( I create big babies lol I blame my husbands side😂)

March 2nd at 8 pm I was admitted for my induction and at 9:30 they started pitocin. It did not take long for the pitocin to start after an hour I was already at 6 cm and they broke my water. My contractions were so intense I asked for an epidural. Well that’s where problems started!

I don’t know if I was a bad patient or the anesthesiologist didn’t really know what they were doing because it took an hour for them to get the epidural in. He kept trying and poking me and he kept hitting nerves and I’d cry out in pain. All while contracting every minute. The nurse standing in front of me balancing me said “jeez these contractions aren’t giving you a break!” Finally they called in the head of anesthesia and she was able to put it in no problem, or so I thought...

I was in so much pain I was just pushing that button for more and more relief and not getting any!

At this point a bunch of people came rushing in and said they need to turn me on my side because the baby’s heart rate has dropped. As they were doing that I said “I feel the need to push” well with that they checked me and sure enough I was crowing! My husband who had taken a bathroom break came out and I said “you better get over here I’m pushing!” 😂

An epidural not working and about 10 pushes later I felt every second of my son being born!

I had always said I really wanted to try for a non medicated birth and I guess I finally got my wish!
