Hey ladies! I have some questions regarding past/recent controversies and I would love to be better educated.

I am a mother, late fifties, politically neutral (I have beliefs on both sides of the scale) and I am trying to figure out everything that has been going on.

Mostly in regards to the black lives matter / ACAB things.

My two daughters (17 and 15) are both very openly liberal, and they both say things like ACAB and have gone to protests in the name of Black Lives Matter and are very up to date with this sort of thing, but I’m looking for a different explanation that I might understand better.

I realize how racial biases and police brutality are big deals in society, but i would love someone to shed some light on the mindset behind ACAB and defunding the police, because those I don’t understand.

I have heard the points of view regarding how the police aren’t always there for people, how they can hold racial prejudices, how they can be unnessarily violent, and such. But does the good outweigh the bad here? What are the reasonings for wanting to defund the police completely? What about black police officers?
