22 month old not talking yet
My son is 22 months and still only says mama and dada, but he mostly just babbles them and doesn’t actually call me mama, or his father dada.
Today his daycare teacher asked to speak to me in private and asked me if he’s talking at home and of course I told her no, but I’ve mentioned this to my son’s doctor and he wasn’t concerned and said that some kids don’t hit that milestone until later and he will talk when he’s ready.
His daycare teacher then said “I don’t want to upset you but I used to work with special needs kids” and wants me to contact a paediatrician to see if anything else is going on (I live in Canada so my son only has a family dr). This didn’t offend me in any way, I know she is just doing her job and I was already aware my son was a little behind compared to other kids, but I always tried not to compare him and just told myself he will talk when he’s ready. He’s been babbling a lot more lately and making different sounds and baby talk, so I thought it was a sign he would start saying more words and talking soon. To me, he doesn’t seem to have anything else wrong besides his speech, he’s a typical toddler, he is a busy little boy with tons of energy and was always up to date with every other milestones, but now I’m nervous.
