Does leaving a hickey mean anything?

So I have a hickey during some bomb ass sex last night and I got it from my FWB what does this mean? My friends say it’s his way of saying he wants more than friends....I say he just doesn’t want me to have sex with anyone else. What y’all think? We’ve only known each other for about a month and we’ve had sex before and no marks were left prior to this.
