Can anyone help me understand?

I bought some clear blue four days ovulation tests the extra advanced one. I tested and for a few days I was getting flashy smiley face, I normally have a 36 day cycle but at CD14 I got my first flashing smiley face and after that I got it for 4 or more days. I tested today and it's the day before ovulation according to the app but nothing, I got a blank circle, is it possible I ovulated earlier than I would've this cycle?? I didn't test after the flashys because I was so confused as I don't usually get smileys until CD21-23 so it really confused me, I took a test strip and those don't seem to be getting darker either and it's apparently the day before I ovulate. Can someone help me understand what happened? Last month I got the static smiley on CD 22 and I definitely ovulated but I didn't get pregnant, I'm super confused if anyone can shed some light that would be great TIA. X
