Exposing trauma for ratings?

Earlier today I saw a clip from the super nanny show on Facebook.
The Nanny from England who comes into homes and helps parents with their children. And on this particular clip that I saw the nanny was talking to a kid about 3-4 years old about a picture montage in the closet that was for his older sibling who died as a baby. This little kid articulated very well what happened and everything. 
Now the nanny in the next scene goes to the mom and asks her “what happened with the baby?” Even though the little kid just told her everything. The look on the moms face was of complete horror of being asked. 
So I wanted to see with you guys do you think that shows exploit real trauma just for ratings? Sometimes without the knowledge of people who are dealing with the trauma?

Yeah, it’s a problem. It gets super weird on the cooking shows my mom likes. It’ll be something like three chefs competing to see who can make the best bisque, and for some reason we need to know all of their tragic backstories.

Television execs don’t care about people and will use anything and everything

I think they do it to make people relatable and keep people interested but it feels wrong. Reminds me of how American idol would give people backstories when the show was running. I now assume all reality tv is incredibly fake

Reality TV ignores the art of storytelling. A docu-series could really shine light on issues, but RealityTV is just about ratings and drama. It’s in part, a shallow reflection of our society, but also a shallower reflection of the TV executives who get to dictate these choices and steer pop culture.

Without having seen the episode or anything else going on within it, I would hope that the reason she asked was because it could be part of the problems going on inside the home. It’s common for people to lose children and never seek any emotional or mental health help after and it can really do a lot of damage to the family unit as a whole.

I just had this conversation with my husband yesterday. We were watching that mortgage or marriage show and talking about how they use the couples issues to their advantage. Like one lady was having fertility issues and obviously emotional about it.....and so the next day the realtor staged a nursery in the house she showed them. Of course she broke down crying when she walked in. And it wasn’t like an “awww” moment it was like....why tf did the realtor do that to them? Something similar happens multiple times in every episode.

I have watched super nanny and I cringe. I have done what supernanny has done. I’ve gone into people’s homes and taught them better parenting techniques. As soon as I heard the word naughty being used I just thought nope. The over-use of time out big nope.

Sure, I think shows do but I think it helps give further insight on what someone is dealing with.For instance this show, Super Nanny goes in and helps a struggling family with unruly children.These particular kids are most likely acting out because of the trauma they've dealt with with losing a family.Super Nanny focusing in on that trauma let's viewers understand why the kids are behaving this way.

I definitely think that some shows do, but I feel like this situation needs more context.
Was the mom letting the kid get away with things as a coping mechanism? Like she was afraid to set boundaries because of the baby she lost? If so, that's a problem that needs to be addressed. Probably by a therapist and not a British Nanny, but that's the show you signed up for.
On the other hand, if she was just bringing it up to get a reaction, that's totally unnecessary
