Are walkers bad? Why??

I keep hearing that walkers are so bad, need opinions from moms. My baby has been using one he seems fine and he likes it. If it is bad, why? Posted below is a picture of the type of walker he uses. Oh and does age matter? He’s 6 1/2 months.

1. It can be dangerous. It can tip if baby reaches for something, it can go down stairs, etc. It’s not a substitute for supervision. 
2. If baby uses it too often: It can delay walking. It holds baby upright and doesn’t let them practice balance needed for walking. It also holds baby’s legs and hips in an unnatural position and it uses the wrong muscles in the legs needed for walking, which can have a negative impact on balance and muscle and joint development and cause long term foot and ankle problems along with walking pattern and hip problems. My daughter had hip dysplasia and our pediatrician said absolutely NO walkers for the above reasons.

Everyone here has great advice also look up container syndrome. A lot of babies today are moved from container to container when letting them explore their surroundings “on their own” meaning free of a container is really what’s best for their development. I don’t think things like this are bad for short periods of time and supervised but be mindful that your child is getting time out of containers as well.

I had one as a kid and was walking by 9 months. I didn’t realized that they were bad until after I bought one and my kid loves it 🤷🏼‍♀️ 
He’s only ever supervised in it... usually just  gives me a second to put him down while I brush my teeth/make bottles/etc and he just watches me or plays with his toys. 
I never use it for longer than 10 minutes at a time and we still do lots of tummy time & he loves to practice standing/jumping with my assistance all day.
With that being said, probs wouldn’t buy it again because rot makes me nervous lol

Walkers and jumpers should be avoided until your baby has developed enough to crawl properly (belly off the ground) from a chiropractic viewpoint it’s not healthy for an underdeveloped spine to be held upright or upright with pressure (jumpers) for long periods of time. Other than that my daughter loved hers and she began taking steps solo at 10 months and walking at 11 so I would take the concept of them slowing development with a grain of salt. As long as your baby is ready for it and they’re being supervised there should be do reason it wouldn’t be safe.

My son was i. A walker all the time & he started walking on his own at 8 months. That boy loved his walker until he learned how to really get down on his own lol

This is controversial everyone had an opinion, i used one myself and my baby also did and had no issues. I just made sure i just put her on it after 9months when her legs are already stronger and of course never left her alone in it

Try googling, I think it’s because learners weren’t paying attention and kids were going down the stairs in them or something. My kids loved their too 🤷🏻‍♀️

Because if kids are not watched they can scoot towards steps and fall down them.

Everything I’ve read is because kids were either falling down the stairs or crashing into furniture that wasn’t mounted and things fell on them injuring them. 
We use one, we love it. We only let him be in there supervised downstairs. If I need to step away for a moment, I either take him with me or put him in exersaucer so he can’t go anywhere.

My son had one and he was fine in it as long as ur baby is being watched he should be fine
