How much to pay MIL to watch baby???

I'm going back to work and my mother in-law agreed to watch the baby(almost 5months old) while I'm at work. It'll be 5 days a week 8-9 hrs a day that she babysits. How much is a reasonable amount to pay her for childcare? Thanks

I wouldn't pay more than daycare would cost personally. 😬 maybe that's wrong idk. I would call a local daycare for pricing.

I don’t pay my mom money/cash but I do pay for her rent & send her groceries as both my husband and I work in the medical field(12hrs-16hrs) with 84+ hours per pay period. It’s tough but I appreciate my mom and it cheaper than daycare.

I’d talk to her about it and come up with an agreement. My parents and ILs watch my child 1 day a week each and neither accept any sort of payment. We provide all food and give money for activities (which they also refuse but I think it’s polite to offer).
Look at the daycare/babysitter rates in your area for a maximum amount (I say maximum as with daycare you are paying qualified people and for overheads such as the rent/costs of running the business that your MIL wouldn’t have). she may just want a token amount for gas money, she may want money for her income or she may just want to spend time with her grandchild without payment- everyone is different.

When I was pregnant with my second son my Husband wanted his mom to babysit even though we had a very trusted babysitter for my son from a previous relationship. I was thinking about it until his dad said we’d have to pay close to what she was making at work (minimum wage full time) and I was like uh hell no, I might as well be throwing my money away and working for no reason. I personally wouldn’t pay anymore than what I would at a daycare, and I think it’s kind of rude for her to ask for more if she’s offering to what the baby. Daycare is already expensive and hard for a lot of people to pay

We never offered to pay the grandparents that watch our kids but we do nice things for them (help my mom qith stuff around the house that she is too old to do herself, etc). Each grandma has done about 2 days a week for 3 years now, so not full time for either.
