Nursing Pillow

Question

For those of you that  have breast fed before, do you think a nursing pillow, such as the boppy or my breast friend pillow are important/ necessary to have? Is using a regular pillow very different?  
Also if you did use one, is it worth getting brand new or do you think used is also ok?

Found it useless, way easier to use a normal pillow. But again it all depends on how you can sit, how your baby prefer to lay, and your tits.

Used this nursing pillow basically every nursing session the first 3-4 months. It was more secure than the Boppy due to the back strap so it held in place better. I'm sure a used one would be just fine since it's just foam. I do recommend having 2 covers so while one is in the wash, you have another. This saved me when my baby had some diaper blow outs haha. And I also got a water proof protector to put under the cover to protect the foam.

I nursed my oldest for 3 years,  I had a boppy and we only used it to lay her in.  I think i maybe used it to nurse twice when I first came home from the hospital. I liked it,  but its definitely not necessary.

I haven’t breastfed but I do LOVE the Boppy pillow. I use it all the time to prop baby up when I’m doing laundry or something it’s only like 30$ so I’d just buy it new, but I’m not about using peoples old pillows

Definitely recommend getting one. New or used (as long as it’s shape is intact) it was great and made breastfeeding more comfortable. Regular pillows work but take more effort to get into a comfortable position. If you get one definitely take to hospital. I wish I had cuz I was so uncomfortable in that bed using those regular pillows. They also have more uses than feeding depending on the babies age such as to lay in on their back or front.

I used a boppy with both my kids and it worked fine, but I was not familiar with my brest friend at that time. This time I’m thinking of trying my brest friend.

For me, it’s a necessity. The boppy is firmer than a regular pillow and I set it so it goes around my waist. It’s easy to keep baby in place. I’m busty, and having the support of the boppy is essential for me and reduces my back pain from bending down to nurse. I actually have 3. One in the bedroom, one in the living room, one in the car. One was a shower gift, the other two were from my sister and cousin when they were done using theirs. I don’t have a problem using a second hand one. Just make sure a cover was used and that the pillow itself isn’t stained or stinky.

I’m sure it depends on your boobs and your baby, but I’m currently using a regular pillow and it’s fine. Sometimes I use my Blessed Nest nursing pillow if it’s convenient, but usually a regular pillow works great for me. My baby girl has a great latch, though, and my boobs aren’t overly big or small (currently a 34c, but normally a 34b), so that might make a difference.

I have both the my Brest friend and boppy. I love the my Brest friend because it helped my baby girl and I with her latch changed my Brest feeding life. I use the boppy once and a while just because I have it lol
