HSV1 is cold sores/oral herpes. HSV2 is genital herpes. You can get HSV1 on your genitals by performing oral sex with a cold sore. It’s still HSV1.

HSV1 is known as cold sores, which is usually found on or near the lips. HSV2 is genital herpes, which is known as sores that develop in the genital area. 
The difference between the two is that HSV1 can be transmitted to the genital area, and still be the same strain of HSV1. For HSV2, I believe it is only in the genital area. 
For example, if you see sores on your vaginal area for the first time and run to the doctors or an urgent care, they are going to provide STD tests to pinpoint exactly which STD you may have. There is a high chance it could be HSV2, but not impossible it is HSV1. 
I know from experience. I had a breakout with sores on my vaginal area and after the tests came back, the bloodwork showed HSV1 and the vaginal swab showed HSV1 results. All because my ex bf didn’t inform me that he cheated on me physically with another person who actually carried this STD. What a shame, I know. 
Anyway, you will be okay. A lot of people have HSV1 , about 60 something percent I believe. I never had another breakout after the first occurrence, I just made sure to take the medication they gave me so the healing process would be faster.
