Can you smell the rain before it comes?

I’m from south Louisiana and most of can walk outside on a cloudy day and go “smells like it’s boutta rain” 
Is this just a southern thing or does everyone do this?

Yep! I live in the northeast and last night the forecast had 0% chance of rain. We were having someone come pick up furniture and I told my husband to not put it outside until morning because I could smell rain. Started coming down a few minutes later 😂

Florida hell yes. Texas hell yes. California gets not as much rain so sometimes it’s a hit or miss lol
