Paying taxes overseas
I was watching a YouTube video and there was an ad directed to US citizens here ( i live in NZ) urging them to file their taxes to the IRS or else they will face penalties.
I checked and apparently its true, if you are a US citizen overseas you have to pay taxes basically twice, one for the country you live in and the other is for the US. I was telling my husband about this, he said that he knows people who have dual citizenship and dropped the American one just to avoid paying taxes, which is insane. I do get it though, why pay taxes when you don't use any of the services there?
What do you think about this ?
