Getting the tdap while pregnant is safe and effective at protecting your baby until they can receive their own vaccines.

I will be getting it during my pregnancy. My brother had the whopping cough growing up & I have nightmares of that coughing sound. He also missed 6 months of school because of it.
I will also ask family who will be around baby regularly to get Tdap.

I had whooping cough when I was 15. It wore my body down to level of exhaustion and immune system vulnerability that I cannot put into words. Pertussis causes the airway to close - the onslaught of coughing and “whooping” is literally the body’s reaction to being cut off from oxygen. It is terrifying. For four months I would wake up on my hands and knees on my bedroom floor, coughing until the point of blood or vomit. There is a psychological component to it - I will never forget how often I thought I was going to die or how my entire body would go into panic, survival mode. Or how exhausted I was after every attack. Or how scared my mom’s face looked as she would sprint into my room night after night. And it wreaks havoc on your immune system and leaves you completely vulnerable - I was hospitalized twice for unrelated health issues while I had whooping cough, once was something as small as the flu that my body just could not fight on its own. It is highly contagious. Don’t mess around with it. And don’t put your children at risk, especially the smallest ones. Please get vaccinated. 🙏🏼♥️

I got the vaccine in my third trimester and I think it’s really important because babies can die so easily from it and I wanted him to be protected. Good thing I did because my sisters child had croup and we didn’t know until after we visited but he just got a minor cold but if he didn’t have antibodies or if he didn’t have his vaccines it could have been bad. He is also a healthy 9Mo
