Continue or not ?

This guy and I spoke for over a month & finally met on Friday. We connected and vibed really well over text/phone and in person. When we got home on Friday we spoke about how what we’re feeling and wanting to do moving forward. He said he wants to be friends first, continue talking and see where it goes rather than jumping into things and rushing it. I agree with him however I’m scared that in the process of being friends we get attached on some level and it doesn’t work out. I’m not sure if I should agree with what he is saying and continue or tell him that I’m not okay with it and that we should go our separate ways. Any advice?
