Cosleeping?

Question

I haven’t had my son yet but once he’s old enough to move out of the bassinet can I start cosleeping? I’m not sure what age babies are when the risk of SIDS goes away but I have a pack n play just in case. I don’t have a crib for him. Also I have a queen size bed I’m planning to breastfeed so it just seems easier to have him in bed with me. Please don’t comment if you’re going to tell me not to cosleep or that breastfeeding might not work out I’ve heard it at least 20 times from family/friends.

bed sharing can be done SAFELY! I’ve bed shared with mine since she was 6m, still going strong at 21m. It’s been the very best thing for us personally.

I bedshared/breastfed all of my babies from birth until I weaned at 22 months!!
It’s a lifesaver for everyone’s sleep!!
I’m a side sleeper and a very light sleeper so it was easy for me. I had them all sleeping through the night at around 2 months old and they all transitioned to a toddler bed next to my bed at 22 months with no problems and they all still sleep great. 🙂

Co-sleeping is sharing a room, but sleeping in your own space. Are you wanting to bedshare? It’s not recommended, but I’m sure you can Google safe sleep practices. 
Risk for SIDS decreases at 3m and then again at 6m. SIDS is sudden infant death syndrome, which is different than suffocation (if you’re worried about suffocation). 
It’s recommended babies don’t have anything around them when they sleep till about a year so I’m assuming that’s when risks for suffocation significantly decrease.

Co-sleeping means to share a room. I think you mean bedsharing. If you can, I encourage you to teach baby to sleep independently. It’s safer and it will save your sanity in the long run. The risk of SIDS decreases significantly at 6 months and continues to decrease over time, but is still a risk. 
I bedshared with my daughter the first 4 months. It wasn’t what I wanted, but it was what worked. If she had taken to the bassinet, that would have been ideal. It never really gets “safer” to bedshare with an infant. They start rolling and such and it presents new challenges. 
We just sleep trained our 4 month old, and now she sleeps safely in her own space. I breastfeed, but I do a dream feed at 10pm and then another at 3AM. It’s really not that big of a deal. Plus, she sleeps more soundly. If baby is currently doing well in a bassinet, I would encourage you to just continue safe sleep practices by keeping them in their own space. It also prevents you from trying to break the bedsharing habit later down the road.
