Breast cancer?

Okay I’m trying not to freak out but I’ve been having this weird sharp pain in my left breast near my nipple for about two weeks now. I feel like I have a small lump but i don’t know if it’s just in my head. When should I get checked? I don’t want to freak myself out but I’m worried. I do have breast cancer in my family, but I’m only 22

I had the same concern last summer and my dr sent me to get breast ultrasound. Turned out I have a bunch of breast cysts, it’s typical for them to hurt especially in my case is after ovulation and right until my period starts. But go get it checked out! It’ll give you a piece of mind

Honestly I’d go get checked now. Recently my grandma felt a lump in her left breast and that turned out to be a cyst but they found a small mass in her right breast which turned out to be cancer. She’s 69 and got her first mammogram ever because of that one lump.

Breast pain can be normal, but it’s definitely worth calling your doctor. If you have a family history of breast cancer, it’s advised to start getting mammograms 10 years before your youngest relative had cancer. My aunt got cancer at 36, so for us mammograms started at 26. 
It would also be worth talking to your doctor about meeting with a genetic counselor to see if you’re a carrier of a gene linked to breast cancer, such as BRCA 1 or 2. My mother is a carrier, so my sister and I have both had the testing done. She’s a carrier and I’m not. It was actually a relief for both of us to get the testing and know what our risk level is after a lifetime of worry. My sister now meets with specialists twice annually to monitor her health and will have some preventative procedures done in the future. 
I know this is a lot more information than you were probably looking for, but as another person with a family history of BC, I understand your worry and wanted to share a bit of my experience. Good luck, I hope that the pain turns out to be nothing concerning.
