Move to hawaii?

Question

Hello, I'm having a really hard time currently. 
My husband has been offered a job in hawaii and he really wants to take it. That means relocating from Georgia to hawaii. 
I'm in the process of leaving my job for other reasons so that's not an issue. With my husband's salary we would be fine. 
I have a lot of anxiety about leaving my home state and living on an island in the middle of the ocean. 
I'm worried what my family will say. I'm 22 with a 2 year old son and a healthy marriage so it really doesn't matter too much I suppose. 
I feel like this is impulsive yet I've done so much research and talked to several people and feel pretty sure in my decision. 
Maybe I'm just anxious to try something new because I'm just barely now getting the hang of this life shit.

I lived there for 5 years as a teen because my military dad was stationed there. I lived it and would have no issue moving back. It is VERY expensive so make 10000% sure you can actually afford everything. Housing alone is 3-4X what a mainland place would cost most times for way way less house/yard. We lived on base so we didn't have that expense but even back then it was astronomical so image worse now. Meeting people can take a bit but be respectful of the locals and the culture and you'll find the people mostly great. Just don't expect it to be the dame as Georgia...Hawaii has a very distinct culture and you have to respect that. With the ability to video chat probably easier to be away from family. I haven't lived near my family in 15 yrs and we travel a lot all over the world and we still talk/see each other over zoom or facetime which is great. I would say visit and make sure you can afford it then if you for sure can why not try. Worst that has happens is you guys don't like it after a few years and move back. Granted I have lived all over so for me moving is exciting and fun but I just know if I hate it we can leave. Good luck and cost out everything.

Really check your finances because EVERYTHING is extra expensive there. It can also cause isolation depression or what they call “island fever “ for a few months. Reason food is so high is because tourism and limited supply, everything is shipped.. property tax is super low though.. if you can grow a lot of your own fruit/veggies, that would be ideal ( again, depending on your finances ) 
Honestly, other than that, I think it’s an amazing opportunity and adventure. I’ve always been about travel and living different areas. Your son is young enough where it shouldn’t impact him too much for the move.. 
Do you think you are social enough to create a friend network there? That will help a lot!

I've give my left tit to live in Hawaii!!!!!!!!! I've vacationed there a few times and LOOVE the island life. But it's VERY expensive. If we could afford it, I'd go in a heartbeat. Even just for a few years. (I'd pick the Big island though...)

I currently live in Hawai’i. I agree with most comments....it is extremely expensive. Also, it’s a beautiful place to visit...but not live....in my opinion. But! I have so many friends who absolutely love it and adore the island life. I often feel so isolated being on an island. But that doesn’t mean that will be your experience!! It’s a beautiful place and if you live outdoors....you will more than likely fall in love!

My husband’s a veteran, but when he was active duty, we’d always hear how Hawaii was beautiful and nice, but isolated. Soldiers and their families liked being there for a little bit, but quickly got sick of it just because it’s an island. 
I don’t have any personal experience, though.
