laparoscopic salpingectomy
So I am writing because I went through a month of pure aggravation.
So here’s my story.
April 21st, my monthly was due. It was 2 days late, however, I didn’t stress it. On the 23rd, I started my cycle..... or so I thought. It started very light and over the next 5 days, it got more intense (heavier with cramps). After day 6 of bleeding, I called my doctor because 6 days of bleeding was very abnormal for me. My ObGyn instructed me to take a pregnancy test. I did. POSITIVE. I called him to let him know that it was positive and he told me to come in for bloodwork and an ultrasound. On April 29th my progesterone level was low and so was my hcg. My hcg was 123.8. The ultrasound didn’t show anything so they told me that either I was very early or I may be miscarrying.
May 3rd, I went in to check my hcg levels and to talk about the cramps. My levels had increased to 283.4 (still not good because it should have doubled ever day). The next day, my doctor told me that he strongly felt like this was an ectopic pregnancy and that he wanted me to do the methotrexate shot to terminate the pregnancy. I agreed. So May 4th, the shot was administered (one in each butt cheek).
After the methotrexate shot, your numbers should increase on day 4 (after the shot)
but start to decrease on day 7 (after the shot). Day 4 May 7th, my hcg was 379.8 and by day 7, May 10, my numbers should have decreased but went UP to 505.
The methotrexate failed and I did another ultrasound to see if they could find the pregnancy but nothing was visible. My doctor decided to do ANOTHER round of the methotrexate. HERE WE GO AGAIN.
DISCLAIMER: I didn’t have any side effects from the methotrexate injections.
Round 2. Injection on May 11th. Hcg on May 14th had DROPPED to 13.4. I THOUGHT IT FINALLY WORKED.....! On May 17th my levels went back UP to 512.9. This was not a good sign. The second round of methotrexate had failed and I had to get surgery.
On May 19th, I was admitted for day surgery and got a laparoscopic salpingectomy. The surgery went well and wasn’t bad at all but I ended losing my Right Fallopian tube. I didn’t have to take any pain meds and the bleeding from the ectopic stopped almost immediately. After the tube was removed (along with the sac) they did a bedside hcg and my numbers were 359.9.
I just went for my one week post op and I am happy that this is over although I lost my Fallopian tube I have faith that I will conceive naturally. I was instructed to wait 3 cycles before trying again. My hcg levels today May 26th was 5.4.
I wrote this because I hope this helps someone. The hcg numbers were all over the place and I don’t see a lot about that.
Praying for my 🌈 👶🏽
