Pregnancy not confirmed by doctor?

Question

Has anyone else not had their pregnancy confirmed at the doctors? I’m in the UK, 4 weeks 3 days and have been told by my doctors that they don’t need to confirm my pregnancy with their own tests because ‘home tests are pretty accurate’ and instead they’ve referred me straight to a midwife at around 8 weeks. 
With my first child, after a positive home test I had a pregnancy test done at the doctors so that they could confirm the pregnancy and then referred me to the midwifery team for my first appointment around 9 weeks. 
They also asked me how far along I am and my predicted due date, which luckily as a second time mom I knew how to work out but..

In the UK this is standard practice (well, where I worked in the South East and in London).
Unless you have a pre-existing health condition that required a change in medication, or a lifestyle change, then most women are asked to have a Booking Appointment with their Community Midwife - ideally before 10 weeks.
In the UK, we do not routinely offer Beta hCG blood tests. They are usually only used when women are having a medically assisted pregnancy, such as IVF. 
If you are less than 12 weeks, experienced severe ongoing pain, bright red fresh blood loss or a negative home pregnancy test after having previously had positive tests, then your GP surgery or midwife would suggest you attend the local Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (usually located in hospital) or A&E if your pain or bleeding is severe and ongoing.
It is very different to America, and as this is an American-centric App, it can often be confusing to people in countries that do not have that model of care.
A GP usually doesn't have much training in pregnancy, birth or neonatal care - they are usually only required to see 5 babies being born, and spend a maximum of 3 months in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
You do get some GP's that specialise in women's health, however, that specialism is more geared towards gynecological issues and contraception.
It is your midwife that is highly trained, linked to the hospital, organises your ultrasounds and will decide along with you, how best to support you during pregnancy. 
In the US, as health care is privatised, the system is geared towards a high-risk medical model of care, so if an American wanted to have midwifery care, it is much harder to find someone who is accepted by your insurance company - resulting in people having to pay out of pocket if their insurance doesn't cover it.
In the UK we are actually given quite a bit of choice in terms of maternity care. However, to some people, it can make them worry if they don't see a GP or Obstetrician, I have looked after women who have stated that it can be unnerving that they self report pregnancy and don't have a doctor telling them that yes, they are pregnant.
Your test at home (as long as it is used correctly and in date) is as accurate as the test at the GP. Therefore, you have the same answer as your GP would give you.
I can understand though, that for anyone on their journey, sometimes you really would like the reassurance of a "Medical Professional" telling you that you are pregnant and you are in the next stage of your journey - no matter if it's baby number 1, 2, 4, or 10.

Same here. They didn't even want my urine sample as they said pharmacy bought tests were more sensitive than their own.
