Forced medical and psych care?

El

So I moved to Florida a couple years ago, when I started working at the hospital they would sometimes have me sit with patients who they said were "baker acts". At first I didn't really think anything of it and I didn't want to sound dumb by asking what that was, I never worked in a hospital before so I thought maybe it was normal. Finally one day I Googled it and I felt weird. I thought in some cases in made sense but there was a couple times where it just really bothered me.

I realize that sometimes people can't make these decisions on their own but I don't know if this is really the best thing. Maybe someone with more knowledge on the situation could enlighten me cause I really feel iffy about the situation. I worked with dementia residents for years and I understood the family would put them there cause that's what was best for them even though the resident didn't necessarily like it since they were confused. But I feel like in this case it's a little more of a touchy subject.
