Tubal ligation regulations
What are the regulations in your area for tubal ligations??
I just learned in my area most hospitals won’t do tubals unless you are:
1. married, at least 25 and have husbands permission
2. Over 30 with more than 3 kids
3. Have a psychiatrist note saying you are sure you don’t want kids or are too mentally unstable to have kids
4. Medical necessity
I thought this was insane!
I am not married, with my long time partner and father of my kids (3 of them) and I’ll be 28 after my next delivery. I talked about a tubal with my doctor and he said no. He said I don’t meet the criteria for insurance coverage and won’t do it at this hospital. I “shopped” around and most reputable places said the same thing!
My partner though, went to his PRIMARY CARE and asked for a vasectomy at 27, not married, didn’t ask how many kids he had and got a referral for a urologist in our area who agreed it wouldn’t be a problem...
I get tubals are more invasive, but if I have a csection, they are already in there, why not just do it then? (That’s how my friend got hers done last year)
What are the regulations in your area??
