Do you need someone’s apartment number to send a letter?

I want to send someone a letter. But I want it to be a surprise so I don’t want to ask them. I know the address of the apartment building but not the number of their apartment. Will it still get to them with just the name and address of the building and the persons name?

Yes, you need to use the full address including apartment number. There is a chance it could get there without it, but I wouldn’t hedge my bets on it, especially with the USPS being so understaffed right now.

You’ll need the exact address, the mail man doesn’t know everyones names so they’ll have to have the unit number to put in the proper mailbox
