please don’t do this. coming from someone who’s indigenous if you have to question if it is cultural appropriation it probably is. i appreciate that you question if it is and don’t want to appropriate my people but just because other ppl think it’s “trendy” or “cute” doesn’t mean it is. my culture is not a trend.

From a cultural standpoint Dakota is a well known tribe. Just because other white people have made it trendy it may be something to consider if you're wanting to remain respectful 
If the name has meaning to you and has been in your family that's different and could be seen as passing on a name in either of your families but I'd still look at the roots of where it came from

If I wanted to name my kid that, I would. There are diff uses of diff names. Most of the names we name our kids in America have other country’s root or meaning. And that’s ok. I wouldn’t take it as anything bad at all. I’ve seen people named this, and always have loved it. You could also always change up the spelling up.
