Intellectual Disabilities & Crime?
Alright guys I have one for you that happened at my local target the other day
As we all know, sex trafficking is real and EXTREMELY scary to think about as parents or women. There have been more than one incidents at our local targets/Walmart’s/grocery stores of women & children being followed, etc so I feel like women and parents are ALWAYS on high alert and in defense mode, and rightfully so.
So what happened here was, a woman was walking out of target with her baby when a man stood in front of her cart and just stared. She finally just yelled and he walked away. As she was loading her own baby & purchases into her car, she hears a scream from another woman with a baby to see that her and this man are in a tug of war over her infant in his infant seat. Long story short enough people come to help, get the man off, police come and he’s arrested. Per the police, this man had an intellectual disability and “meant no harm or had no malicious intent” and basically want the public to disregard the entire incident.
Below is the moms original post trying to spread awareness, the police response on social media, and the moms response after the police told people to “disregard all other posts”.
So how would you feel if this was you and your baby and this is how it was handled?
How was she supposed to know in that moment he may be intellectually disabled if it was not visible?
Regardless of disability or not, he was TRYING TO TAKE HER BABY AND COULD HAVE HARMED THE BABY IN THE STRUGGLE!!!
For me personally, if you are a stranger who tries to to touch or take my newborn my son, idgaf who are, what issues you may have, I’m going to do everything in my power to harm you and protect my baby.
Many people in the comments section of the PD post are disgusted at how it was handled and how the police basically are brushing it off as no big deal and basically downplaying this moms experience because regardless it was still an attempted child abduction.
So how do you feel this should be/should have been handled?
