How to end things with a guy?

Meghan

TLDR: I don't feel a spark with this guy I met online. We've dated for a couple of months but don't have a defined relationship. I've realized things aren't going anywhere long term and would rather not waste both of our time. How do I end things?

I (26f) am back in the dating world after my husband of 5 years divorced me. Before that, I only had one other boyfriend who dumped me.

Anyway. I met this guy (29) online about 2 months ago and we got along really well, and we've gone on several dates.

Our first few dates were good. We had ample conversation topics and made some inside jokes.

For our fifth date, we went to the movies and he finally held my hand. I'd been trying to hint that I would kiss him since date two, but when I tried to make the move at the end of this date, he opted for a cheek kiss.

On our next date, we kept running out of things to talk about, and he didn't hold my hand when there was a chance. Because of this, I feel like any spark I felt on the fifth date is gone, and I've subconsciously friend zoned him.

At this point, I've realized the relationship isn't going anywhere long term, and I'd like to end things. I've never broken up with someone let alone when there aren't labels. How do I do this?

Do I text him? Make him think we're going on a date and tell him this before we leave? Help.
